Working with us

How are your fees set?
A fixed monthly fee, quoted in writing after a scoping call and held for twelve months. It is based on transaction volume, entity count and payroll headcount. It is never based on how many questions you ask.
Do you charge for phone calls and emails?
No. Hourly billing makes clients hesitate before asking, which is exactly backwards. Unscheduled calls are included.
Do you work with clients in every province?
Yes. We work remotely with individuals and businesses in all ten provinces and three territories, including Quebec, where we prepare the TP-1 alongside the federal return.
How quickly do you respond?
Within one business day on anything routine, and same-day during filing season on anything time-sensitive. Deadline-critical items are escalated immediately.
Can we start mid-year?
Yes. Mid-year transitions are routine. We reconcile year-to-date figures before the first run so year-end slips and returns balance correctly.

Canadian tax basics

When is the T1 deadline?
April 30 for most individuals. If you or your spouse or common-law partner earned self-employment income, you have until June 15 to file, but any balance owing is still due April 30.
When is the RRSP deadline?
Contributions made in the first 60 days of the year can be deducted on the previous year’s return. For the 2026 tax year, that deadline is March 1, 2027. Your limit is on your latest notice of assessment.
Do I need to register for GST/HST?
Once your taxable sales pass $30,000 in a single quarter or over four consecutive quarters, yes. Taxi and rideshare drivers (Uber, Lyft) must register from their first fare regardless of income.
How do I estimate my refund?
Use our T1 calculator for a quick federal and provincial estimate. For an exact number, we prepare the return.

Onboarding and data

What do you need from me to start?
Prior-year returns and notices of assessment, access to your accounting software, bank and payroll details, and a list of entities with their year-ends. Our document checklist lists everything by service.
How do you get access to my CRA account?
Through the CRA’s Represent a Client service. We send an authorization request and you approve it in My Account or My Business Account. You never share your CRA password.
Do I have to change accounting software?
No. We work natively in QuickBooks, Xero, Sage 50 and Wave, and we adapt to your existing chart of accounts.
How is my information protected?
Encrypted document exchange, least-privilege access, and no client records or SINs moved through personal email or consumer messaging apps.

Late filings and notices

I am several years behind. Is that a problem?
It is common and it is fixable. We work backwards in the order the CRA expects, and prepare a Voluntary Disclosures Program or taxpayer relief application where penalties can be reduced.
I received a letter from the CRA. Can you deal with it?
Yes. Send it over. Review requests and correspondence on returns we prepared are included in your fee. Representation on returns prepared elsewhere is scoped separately.
What does filing late cost?
If you owe, the late-filing penalty is 5% of the balance plus 1% for each full month late, up to 12 months, and it doubles for repeat late filers. If you are due a refund, filing late mostly delays your money and your benefits, such as the GST/HST credit and Canada child benefit.
